Anthracnose on Avocado and Mango

Anthracnose is one of the most dangerous diseases on avocado and mango crops.

Causal Agent

The causal agent of Antracnose is Colletotrichum gleosporioides.

Very humid weather conditions and temperatures ranging from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius have a significant effect on the severity of the infection.

Rainfall in the spring can also lead to suitable conditions for the spread of the disease.


  • One of the early signs of infection is the spread of the fungus, where symptoms appear as small black spots.
  • When control measures are not taken, these spots spread and expand to cover the entire surface of the stalk. This leads flower drop and failure to bear and develop fruits.
  • Symptoms on the leaves are presented in the shape of dark black spots with a yellow surrounding halo.
  • On the fruit, the symptoms are burns and irregular black sores.
  • In the event of severe infection, the fruits fall off the tree.

Prevention and Control

  • Cultivate resistant varieties
  • Prune and ventilate tree canopy while constantly collecting plant residues from soil.
  • Use of Cuprocaffaro (500 g/barrel) as a preventative, alternating it with Luna Sensation ( 70 ml/barrel) and Nativo (70 g/barrels).
  • Spray the trees as soon as early signs of disease appear, then repeat the application every two weeks.
